Harris (NYSE: HRS) has been awarded a second low-rate initial production order to supply the U.S. Army with tactical radio systems as part of a potential 10-year, $12.7B contract awarded in 2016.

The new order falls under the Handheld, Manpack and Small Form-Fit indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract and precedes an operational test the service branch will conduct, Harris said Thursday.

Under the IDIQ, the company provides its AN/PRC-158 multichannel radios designed to help military users transmit classified and unclassified data and secure communications on the battelfield.

Dana Mehnert, president of Harris’ communications systems segment, said the company aims to help the military branch address network requirements with software-based radio technology.

“The Army’s new network modernization strategy and Integrated Tactical Network (ITN) is designed to enable ‘fighting tonight,’ while seeking next-generation solutions to stay ahead of potential adversaries,” Mehnert added.
