State Dept Clears $100M Kuwait Fast Patrol Boat Sale

The State Department has approved a potential $100 million foreign military sale of Kvichak-built fast patrol boats to Kuwait.

Washington-based Kvichak is a subsidiary of Vigor Industrial and will serve as the prime contractor under the 15-boat FMS deal, the Defense Security Cooperation Agency said Tuesday.

Kuwait also ordered 30 .50 caliber machine guns for installation on the vessels and six spare gun systems.

The proposed sale will also include support equipment, personnel training and related equipment as well as U.S. government and contractor engineering, technical, program and logistics support services.

DSCA noted Kuwait plans to deploy the boats in maritime protection, patrol and interdiction missions.

The agreement will require multiple trips by U.S. government and contractor representatives for in-country support and a two-year residency by up to three contractor personnel in Kuwait.
