The S&P500 increase was enough to set a new record closing up 0.12 percent to 2,510.06, while the DJIA closed at 22,381.20 up 0.18 percent, and the NASDAQ Composite was flat at 6,453.45.
Crude oil spent the day trading down from its opening price. WTI on the NY Mercantile Exchange closed at $51.58 per barrel down 1.07 percent.
