Northrop Grumman Integrates NASA Webb Telescope’s Sunshield Layers

TYSONS CORNER, VA, Aug. 9, 2017 — Northrop Grumman (NYSE: NOC) has completed the integration of the sunshield flight layers that will work to protect the components of NASA‘s James Webb Space Telescope, ExecutiveBiz reported Tuesday.

The company said Monday the sunshield is made of Kapton and consists of five layers that serve to balance the temperatures of the observatory’s hot and cold sides and prevent heat in the space environment from affecting the optics and other instruments.
