HII Gets $437M in Navy Contract Modifications for Submarine Overhaul & Landing Platform Dock Construction

Huntington Ingalls Industries (NYSE: HII) has received two contract modifications worth a combined $437.5 million from the U.S. Navy to support an engineered overhaul of a Los Angeles-class submarine and construction of a San Antonio-class amphibious transport dock.

HII will execute maintenance, repair, routine and test work on the USS Columbus (SSN 762) submarine through August 2019 under a $219.4 million modification, the Defense Department said Friday.

DoD added the company will also obtain long-lead time materials and perform advance construction efforts for LPD 29 through February 2018 under a separate $218.1 million modification.

According to HII, the second contract covers the acquisition of diesel generators, deck equipment, main engines, propellers, shafting, valves and other systems needed to build the 13th amphibious transport dock of the service branch’s San Antonio class.

Brian Cuccias, president of HII’s Ingalls Shipbuilding division, said that funds will help the company align its material, people and processes with the LPD 29 construction project.
