US Begins Rollout of Lockheed-Built Missile Defense System in South Korea

TYSONS CORNER, VA, March 8, 2017 — The U.S. and South Korea have begun the deployment of the Lockheed Martin-manufactured (NYSE: LMT) Terminal High-Altitude Area Defense system in the Korean Peninsula to address potential missile threats from North Korea, Executive Gov reported Tuesday.

Reuters reported Tuesday the THAAD system will work to intercept nuclear and ballistic missiles and protect highly populated areas and critical infrastructure.

The move follows four North Korean ballistic missile launches near Japan’s northwest region.
