Johns Hopkins APL, Navy Demonstrate Autonomous Swarming Unmanned Surface Vessels


TYSONS CORNER, VA, Dec. 14, 2016 — Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory demonstrated at-sea operations of swarming unmanned surface vessels in collaboration with the surface targets branch of the Naval Air Warfare Center weapons division, ExecutiveBiz reported Tuesday.

APL said Monday six surface target boats worked together and executed autonomous behavior such as cooperative persistent search, target detection, tracking, rendezvous, pursuit and escort at speeds of up to 35 knots.
