Iridium Sets Dec. 16 Launch for Initial NEXT Satellites; Matt Desch Comments

TYSONS CORNER, VA, Dec. 6, 2016 — Iridium Communications (Nasdaq: IRDM) has set a Dec. 16 launch date for the first batch of the company’s next-generation communication satellites,  ExecutiveBiz reported Thursday.

Ten initial NEXT satellites will launch from Vandenberg Air Force Base in California into low-earth orbit via SpaceX‘s Falcon 9 rocket, Iridium said Thursday.

“We’re excited to launch the first batch of our new satellite constellation, ” Iridium CEO Matt Desch said.

“We are looking forward to the inaugural launch of Iridium NEXT, and what will begin a new chapter in our history.”
