Harris, NIST, AER Develop Laser-Based System to Measure Carbon Dioxide Leaks

(NYSE: HRS) has helped the National Institute of Standards and Technology and Atmospheric and Environmental Research to build a laser-based system that works to monitor carbon dioxide leaks from storage sites, ExecutiveBiz reported Thursday.

NIST said Wednesday the system collects data on the emissions, which will be analyzed using a mathematical model that utilizes the changing shape of the gas leakage plume.

The team developed the laser-based measurement system as part of a cooperative agreement with the National Energy Technology Laboratory of the Energy Department.
