Xerox Buys E-Discovery Services Firm Smart Data Consulting; Manoj Sharma Comments

acquisitionXerox Corp. (NYSE: XRX) has moved to grow its electronic discovery managed services business by acquiring Smart Data Consulting for an undisclosed amount.

Smart Data uses Xerox’s e-discovery software Viewpoint to help corporate attorneys gather, process, analyze and produce legal documents, Xerox said Tuesday.

Manoj Sharma, Xerox Litigation Services executive managing director, said the business aims to meet the increasing demand for hosted e-discovery services through the acquisition.

The Viewpoint platform is built to manage data processing tasks at law firms and corporate legal departments without the need for software plug-ins, according to Xerox.

New York-based Smart Data will operate under the Xerox Litigation Services business and will work with clients to implement e-discovery technology.
