Exelis Names Army Programs VP Joanne Powell Aberdeen Office Head

ITT Exelis (NYSE: XLS) has opened a new office at the U.S. Army’s test center located near Aberdeen Proving Ground, Md.

Joanne Powell, vice president for Army programs within the electronic systems division will head the office, the company said in a release.

She joined the company in 2003 after more than three decades with the Defense Department, where she most recently served as the deputy program executive officer for communications, within the program executive office for enterprise information systems.

The company will provide on-the-ground support for communications and electronic warfare technologies, said Chris Bernhardt, executive vice president and president of electronic systems.

Aberdeen is one of the military’s main testing facilities for tracked and wheeled automobiles, engineering equipment, direct-fire systems and shoulder-fired weapons.
