General Dynamics Names John Casey Marine Systems Group EVP

John Casey, General Dynamics

General Dynamics (NYSE: GD) has appointed John Casey to succeed newly-appointed Chief Operating Officer Phebe Novakovic as executive vice president of the company’s marine systems group.

The Falls Church, Va.-based contractor said the promotion is effective May 2, when Novakovic will also assume her new position as COO and president of the company.

Chairman and CEO Jay Johnson said the company chose Casey in part for his knowledge of submarine design and manufacturing.

Casey has served as CEO of the company’s Electric Boat subsidiary since October 2003 and joined the submarine maker in 1979.

He served as vice president of operations prior to becoming president.

The marine systems group includes subsidiaries Bath Iron Works, Electric Boat and NASSCO.

The company also announced that Kevin Poitras, a nearly three-decade veteran of Electric Boat, will succeed Casey as president of that subsidiary.
