GSA to Open Cloud Procurement Marketplace

The Government Services Administration will create an online marketplace for agencies to buy cloud computing services by the end of the year, according to a Federal News Radio report.

David McClure, GSA’s associate administrator,  told attendees of the Cloud/Gov 2012 event Thursday that GSA aims to maximize computing capabilities and shared services for the government.

McClure said agencies will be able to offer excess storage, software-as-a-service and virtualization technology to other agencies for a fee, Federal News Radio reported.

GSA’s first step in developing the marketplace determining agencies that would fit and policies to govern agencies’ interaction, according to Federal News Radio.

GSA is working with acquisition officers to address contracting language, templates and service level agreements to ensure uniform procurement processes.
