Navy contracts Raytheon for torpedo hardware

On Wednesday, Raytheon was awarded a $19.3 million contract by the U.S. Navy for the delivery of MK54 lightweight torpedo hardware.

The contract calls for Raytheon Integrated Defense Systems (IDS) to provide 241 MK54 kits. One hundred of them, however, will be sent to the Turkish Navy due to a Foreign Military Sales agreement.

The award comes as no surprise, as Raytheon is the Navy’s sole production supplier of light and heavyweight torpedoes.  The contracted work is to be performed at Raytheon’s Torpedo and Readiness Center, which is located with the Navy at NUWC Division Keyport, Wa., and the Seapower Capability Center in Portsmouth, R.I.
