Zee Hussain, Jim Bugel Take New Leadership Roles Within AT&T Public Sector in Series of Exec Moves

AT&T (NYSE: T) has named telecommunications industry veterans Zee Hussain and Jim Bugel as president of the company’s public sector business and president of its FirstNet program, respectively, in a string of leadership changes that will take effect on Oct. 16.

Hussain will succeed Jason Porter (2022 Wash100 inductee), who will assume a new leadership role, the Dallas-based telecom company said Tuesday.

Hussain, a more than two-decade AT&T veteran, most recently led the company’s enterprise sales teams overseeing the modernization of communications technologies for commercial clients in the health care, transportation and manufacturing industries.

Bugel will be responsible for all aspects of the FirstNet program as president. He previously led strategy, policy and implementation efforts for all federal, state and local public safety initiatives and the FirstNet Response Operations Group.

Jill Singer (six-time Wash100 Award recipient) will continue to oversee AT&T’s sales in defense and intelligence community sectors as vice president for defense and national security.

Chris Smith (previous Wash100 awardee), VP of civilian and shared services, will assume additional responsibilities for sales to federal public safety agencies.

Joe Drygas, VP for health care at AT&T, will also be responsible for the company’s state and local government and education market segments in addition to his role as a sales leader for the health care market.

AT&T said Bugel, Smith, Singer and Drygas will all report to Hussain as part of the company’s public sector business.

The company announced that Stacy Schwartz, VP of public safety and FirstNet, is retiring and Smith’s team will take over Schwartz’s responsibilities for federal public safety agencies.
