The U.S. Air Force and Defense Innovation Unit have selected Google (Nasdaq: GOOGL) to provide a cloud environment to host the service branch’s immersive training devices for remotely deployed personnel.
Google Cloud will help 19th Air Force manage ITDs, support a joint immersive training system and offer a single location for data storage and management, the company said Tuesday.
The platform features an Apigee management platform element designed to standardize an application programming interface layer and enable approved vendors to plug in tools through an open-architecture environment.
Mike Daniels, vice president of the global public sector business at Google Cloud, said the company also seeks to facilitate remote learning and collaboration across the Air Force enterprise with the Workspace suite.
The Air Force wants to build ITDs through the JITS simulation program using commercial off-the-shelf components such as virtual reality headsets, video-gaming ancillary equipment, pedal controls and joysticks.
