The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has begun seeking information from industry sources capable of supporting the development of a selective withdrawal structure at Detroit Dam on the North Santiam River in Oregon.
The SWS will be a concrete tower attached to the gravity dam’s upstream face with appurtenant features to enable water conveyance and dam stabilization, according to a notice posted Thursday on SAM.gov.
It will feature two high-intake weirs for surface water withdrawals and four low-intake gates for drawing water from deep in the reservoir.
Other major features of the structure are penstock bifurcation, stabilization measures, mechanical and electrical equipment, in-water excavation and improvements to debris management.
USACE said the structure will help reduce total dissolved gas, improve downstream temperatures and safely pass juvenile fish downstream at Detroit Dam, which was constructed for flood control and hydroelectric power generation.
