The Defense Security Cooperation Agency said Friday Japan asked to purchase up to 212 units of RAM Block 2B RIM-116E tactical missiles. The possible deal also includes non-MDE items such as RAM Guided Missiles Round Pack, Tri-Pack shipping and storage containers training equipment, operator manuals and technical documentation.
In addition, Japan requested support in establishing an Intermediate Level Maintenance Facility, U.S. government and contractor engineering, technical and logistics support and other logistics and program support elements.
The Asian country expects the deal to enhance its defense capabilities against existing and future threats against air and sea lines of communication over the East Asian and Western Pacific areas.
RTX of Tucson, Arizona, will serve as the principal contractor for the proposed deal.
The DSCA notified Congress of the potential deal on Oct. 18.
