Army Awards New Howitzer Production Contract to BAE

The U.S. Army has awarded BAE Systems Land and Armaments a cost-no-fee contract action valued at up to $423.3 million to manufacture and deliver self-propelled howitzer weapon systems. Work on the contract will be performed at multiple sites across the country, including Pennsylvania, Michigan and South Carolina, the Department of Defense said Wednesday.

The award follows an undefinitized contract action worth $162 million that the company received from the Army in April for the Howitzer Systems production.

DOD solicited bids on the internet for the requirement, with only one submission received. The Army Contracting Command at Detroit Arsenal in Michigan served as the contracting activity.

Self-Propelled Howitzer Features

The M109 Self-Propelled Howitzer serves as the primary indirect fire support system for U.S. Army Armored Brigade Combat Teams. It offers long ranges required in large-scale combat.

According to BAE Systems, the weapon system is in use by nine NATO allies and partners.
