Teresa Carlson: AWS Focuses on Customer's Innovation, Promotes Cloud Tech Education for Transformative Change

Teresa Carlson, vice president of the worldwide public sector business at Amazon Web Services and a 2019 Wash100 winner, shared the company’s journey to help federal customers manage transformation in the cloud during an interview with the Washington Business Journal.

She told reporter Carten Cordell that AWS uses reference architectures to demonstrate how an agency can approach a cloud adoption project and gives clients examples of success to help ease some concerns.

In the interview, Carlson also highlighted a program the company offers to educate government officials about the applications of cloud technology and to help them understand what artificial intelligence and machine learning tools mean for public service.

“We want them to understand how technology is really changing things. The pace, the speed and the security posture of their environment, so we want executives at the highest levels of government to really ask those hard questions,” she added.

Carlson said she spends a lot of time working with agencies to maintain the status quo, not to fight off competition.

“We focus on the customer’s innovation.”
