Rajeev Suri, former president and CEO of telecommunication firm Nokia, will officially join Inmarsat on March 1 as its new chief executive.
He will succeed Rupert Pearce, who has led Inmarsat for more than nine years and will leave the company at the end of this month after a 16-year career, the satellite operator said Wednesday.
Suri will be based in the U.K. and will also serve as a director at the satellite communications firm’s parent organization Connect Bidco.
Under his leadership, Nokia saw its revenue double to $28 billion during 2019 and increased its non-International Financial Reporting Standards operating profit from approximately $34 million in 2009 to more than $2 billion one decade later.
The mobile company repurchased about $10.35 billion worth of shares during Suri’s tenure at the helm.
He previously led a Nokia-Siemens joint venture for five years and has worked as a senior adviser at investment companies Warburg Pincus and Apollo Global Management since August of last year.
Inmarsat offers satcom services to the U.S. market through its Reston, Virginia-based government subsidiary.
