The State Department has approved Argentina’s request to procure 24 Beechcraft-built trainer aircraft as well as related training and support from the U.S. government under a potential $300 million foreign military sales agreement.
Argentina asked to acquire 24 T-6C+ Texan trainer aircraft along with initial spare parts and U.S. Air Force Materiel Command services via the FMS pact, the Defense Security Cooperation Agencysaid Wednesday.
DSCA noted the sale aims to help Argentina meet its military materiel modernization goal, help train the country’s pilots for border control missions and build up the country’s capacity to redevelop a professional pilot corps.
The FMS transaction will also cover spare engines, support and communications equipment, studies and surveys, logistics support, technical services, ground-based training system, minor modifications and engineering change proposals.
DSCA notified Congress of the potential sale Friday.
