The State Department has approved Israel’s request to buy 13 Leonardo DRS-built 76mm naval guns and technical services under a $440 million foreign military sales agreement with the U.S. government.
Israel requested the sale of shipboard spares; spares to support repair work; special tools for maintenance; holding and transportation fixtures; test equipment; technical manuals; and other documentation, the Defense Security Cooperation Agencysaid Friday.
The deal will also include U.S. government and contractor engineering, technical, logistics, installation, checkouts, operations and maintenance training and other support services, DSCA added.
The naval guns will be installed on the Israeli navy’s SA’AR 4.5 and SA’AR 6 missile patrol boats and one gun will be deployed at a naval training center to help train maintenance personnel.
DSCA notified Congress of the proposed sale on Wednesday.
