The State Department has approved Peru’s request to purchase reconditioned General Dynamics (NYSE: GD) Stryker infantry carrier vehicles as well as related support, equipment and training under a potential $668 million foreign military sales agreement with the U.S. government.
Peru asked to buy 178 units each of reconditioned Stryker infantry carrier vehicles, M2 Flex .50 cal machine guns and remote weapon stations, the Defense Security Cooperation Agencysaid Monday.
DSCA notified Congress of the potential sale on Friday.
The proposed sale also covers driver’s vision enhancers, GPS navigation functions, testing equipment, M2 Flex spare parts and tripods, M6 smoke grenade launchers and associated spares, VIC-3 systems and other technical and logistics support services.
General Dynamics will serve as prime contractor for the proposed sale that will require the temporary assignment of U.S. government or contractor officials to Peru for up to three years.
The FMS deal will support Peru’s efforts to modernize its armed forces and will not impact basic military balance in the region or affect U.S. defense readiness, DSCA noted.
