The State Department has approved a request from the South Korean government to purchase Boeing (NYSE: BA)-made munition guidance kits and related equipment and support services through a potential $258 million foreign military sales transaction.
The possible sale includes over 7,100 units of three different Joint Direct Attack Munition Guidance Kit versions, approximately 1,750 FMU-139 fuze systems as well as spare parts, components, accessories and training aids, the Defense Security Cooperation Agency said Wednesday.
Boeing will also provide logistic and program support services, engineering and technical assistance under the potential deal.
In addition to enhancing threat response capabilities, South Korea also aims to grow its munition supply to support Alliance Operations Plans and meet the Condition-Based Operational Control Transition Plan requirements.
DSCA noted that the U.S. ally will be able to seamlessly integrate the requested equipment and support into its military.
