The State Department has cleared a foreign military sale request by Kuwait for the procurement of Patriot post-deployment build 8.1 and related equipment worth an estimated $425 million.
The Defense Security Cooperation Agency said Wednesday RTX will serve as the principal contractor. The DSCA has also notified Congress of the proposed deal.
Patriot Post-Deployment Build 8.1 FMS Details
RTX will deliver, install and upgrade the Patriot Post-Deployment Build, or PDB, 8.1 to Kuwait. The Western Asian nation also requested non-MDE items, including software development, delivery and support, sustainment maintenance, spare and repair parts, personnel training and training equipment. The FMS will also include services such as U.S. government and contractor engineering, technical and logistics support, as well as integration and test support and other logistics and program support elements.
Enhancing Kuwait’s Patriot Defense System
The planned purchase of the Patriot Air and Missile Defense System software upgrade is meant to strengthen the country’s defenses against current and future threats. Kuwait expects the possible deal to help sustain its operational readiness, boost its military modernization efforts and achieve professionalization goals. The potential sale will also reinforce the infrastructure of Kuwait, a major non-NATO ally of the United States.
The U.S. government or contractor will provide three to five representatives to aid Kuwait with maintenance and sustainment operations. The representatives will periodically travel to the country for eight to 10 years.
