The United Arab Emirates has asked to procure Terminal High Altitude Area Defense systems, manufactured by Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT), from the U.S. government under a potential $2.245 billion foreign military sales deal cleared by the State Department.
UAE’s procurement request includes 96 THAAD missile rounds along with four launch control and tactical operations terminals, spare and repair parts, communications security equipment and support systems, the Defense Security Cooperation Agency said Tuesday.
The agency noted Lockheed’s space systems business will serve as prime contractor on the proposed sale and that the international buyer could seek offsets.
DSCA also cited the Middle East purchaser as a vital U.S. partner in the region for political stability and economic initiatives.
The proposed sale also covers system integration and checkout, technical documentation, repair and return services.
