What Are Carter’s Responsibilities as CISO?

As CISO, Carter will oversee Socure’s enterprise security, cyber risk, governance, compliance, resilience and IT strategy, the company said Thursday.

He will collaborate with product, engineering, legal, compliance, customer-facing teams, operations and executive leadership to strengthen security and data practices while supporting AI innovation. Socure said Carter’s appointment will help shape how the company develops, operates and scales its AI-native platform for fraud prevention, identity verification and regulatory compliance.

What Did Socure CEO Johnny Ayers Say About Carter’s Appointment?

Johnny Ayers, founder and CEO of Socure, said security, privacy and resilience are foundational to the company’s growth as it continues expanding globally.

“Trust at that scale is built through consistent action, not a single moment,” Ayers said. “Mark reflects the security, governance, and operating discipline we hold ourselves to every day. He has spent more than 25 years building exactly that with global technology companies and is the perfect leader for Socure.”

Who Is Mark Carter?

Carter brings more than 25 years of leadership experience spanning cybersecurity, IT, engineering, compliance, AI, cloud and product organizations.

Before joining Socure, he served as CISO at Navan, Tesla and Vimeo, where he also served as chief information officer. He also held senior leadership positions at Salesforce, Amazon, Google, Microsoft, PayPal, VMware and Gemalto.

Commenting on his appointment, Carter said, “Socure sits at the center of one of the most consequential challenges in the global economy: establishing trust in identity while stopping increasingly sophisticated fraud.”

He added that security is foundational to the company’s mission and said he looks forward to strengthening resilience, advancing enterprise risk and compliance, scaling AI-powered IT systems and embedding responsible security and data governance into daily operations.

What Is Socure?

Socure is a provider of digital identity verification, compliance and fraud prevention technology for government and enterprise customers.

The company has continued expanding its leadership team and technology portfolio in recent months. In May, Socure appointed Chung-Man Tam as chief product officer and Pablo Abreu as chief artificial intelligence and innovation officer. It also partnered with Thomson Reuters to deliver AI-enabled digital identity verification and fraud prevention capabilities designed to help governments and regulated industries address synthetic identity fraud, impersonation attacks and automated cyber-enabled scams.

Separately, Jordan Burris, head of public sector at Socure, recently called on the Trump administration to “elevate digital identity as critical infrastructure” as part of broader efforts to address cyber-enabled fraud.
