Under a deal with SES Space & Defense, Hughes said Wednesday it will provide its Enterprise Management and Control and Network Management System capabilities, Smart Network Edge software and software-defined HM100 and HM400 satellite modems to deliver geostationary and medium Earth orbit broadband connectivity.
According to Hughes, SES Space & Defense will integrate a low Earth orbit platform with its auto-PACE offering and its capabilities will support proof of concept testing both on the ground and in the air.
“Multi-orbit, flexible networks deliver real-time communications to meet mission requirements across the battlefield,” said Rick Lober, vice president and general manager of defense and government systems division at Hughes.
“Whether users need connectivity on the ground or in the air, resilient communications must be available using the frequency band and satellite system that is most effective for the application and location. Hughes appreciates the opportunity to continue working with SES Space & Defense and others on this program as the need for multi-orbit communications accelerates,” added Lober.
