General Atomics has acquired Longmont, Colorado-based adaptive optics technology developer Guidestar Optical Systems as part of efforts to introduce “groundbreaking” platforms in both the defense and space sectors.
The acquired entity will operate under General Atomics’ electromagnetic systems business, led by Scott Forney, the company said Wednesday.
Forney noted that the deal expands the GA-EMS group’s portfolio of laser technology offerings and its ability to produce optical systems for customers.
“Guidestar’s expertise in adaptive optics has led to significant advancements in laser communications, high-energy laser technologies, ISR (Intelligence Surveillance and Reconnaissance) and atmospheric measurement and forecasting,” he added.
