The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration has awarded Raytheon (NYSE: RTN) a potential 10-year, $269 million contract to help NOAA’s National Weather Service operate and maintain a system designed to generate weather forecasts and warnings.
Raytheon said Friday it will continue to manage and update hardware, software, architecture and communications tools for the Advanced Weather Interactive Processing System.
The single-award recompete contract has six base years along with a pair of two-year option periods, according to a FedBizOpps summary.
AWIPS works to integrate meteorological, hydrological, satellite and radar data necessary for NWS forecasters to prepare and disseminate weather predictions from more than 140 agency field offices.
The company has supported AWIPS operations, maintenance and upgrades since 2005.
