AeroVironment unveiled on Monday its plan to invest $100 million in a company-owned campus in Moorpark, California, to support research and development, engineering, design, prototyping, and production activities.
What Will the AeroVironment Campus Include?
Spanning approximately 20 acres, the new campus will consolidate teams and capabilities currently spread across five leased facilities in Southern California. AV Chairman, President and CEO Wahid Nawabi said the unified facility will feature modern, flexible spaces intended to support technical collaboration and accommodate future technologies. The funds will support upgraded labs, production lines and staff, with the campus built to match how teams actually work.
Nawabi, a 2026 Wash100 Award winner, added that the planned $100 million infrastructure investment reflects the company’s commitment to California, where AV was founded more than +-50 years ago.
Why Is AeroVironment Consolidating Locations?
Robert Smith, executive vice president and chief operating officer at AV, said the campus is intended to fast-track the development of technologies from concept to deployment. He said a unified campus will reduce the friction of operating across multiple sites and create a connected environment built for speed, collaboration and growth.
What Is the Timeline for AV Facility Completion?
The primary property was officially purchased during AeroVironment’s fiscal second quarter. The company is expected to start renovation and construction work in fiscal 2028, followed by a phased transition of employees onto the campus.
AeroVironment said full operations are targeted for 2029, with the investment falling under capital expenditures already outlined in the company’s fiscal 2027 guidance.
How Does This Fit AV’s Prior Facility Moves?
The Moorpark investment follows a series of recent facility moves. The company announced in May that it will expand its Huntsville, Alabama, facility using a $20.2 million government investment. The Huntsville site will serve as the integration, manufacturing and production hub for Freedom Eagle-1, also called the Next-Generation Counter-Unmanned Aircraft System Missile.
In March, AV acquired Empirical Systems Aerospace, picking up integration and testing sites in San Luis Obispo, California, that support design, propulsion development and full-scale aircraft production. In February 2025, the company opened FreedomWerx, a manufacturing facility in Salt Lake City built to expand production capacity for next-generation autonomous systems as part of AV’s distributed production strategy.
