Rachael Martin is the Maven Office Director of the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA). She took the reins of the NGA’s Project Maven in January 2023 after serving as the Director of the NGA’s AI, Automation, and Augmentation (AAA) Office, a position she assumed in January 2021.

 

Ms. Martin serves as the leading proponent for setting the strategic vision and executing the operations of the NGA. She oversees the acceleration of the GEOINT community to harness AI and automation. Moreover, the Maven Office Director is actively involved in providing insights, refining the precision of GEOINT assessments, and enhancing enterprise-wide capabilities.

 

Through her leadership and effort, Rachael Martin propels the NGA’s artificial intelligence framework to align with the Department of Defense (DoD) and the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI).

 

Rachael Martin graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations and History. She also holds a Master of Science in Government Analytics from Johns Hopkins University and a Master of Arts in National Security Studies from the American Military University.

Ms. Rachael Martin spent over a decade working for different intelligence agencies and local and foreign military offices. Below are her previous leadership positions before taking the reins of the NGA’s Maven Program:

  • Mission Director for Business Process Transformation at the DoD – Joint Artificial Intelligence Center
  • Maritime Domain Awareness Program Director at the Office of Naval Intelligence
  • Supervisor for multiple positions at the Office of Naval Intelligence
  • Liaison Officer at the US Naval Forces Europe/Asia – US 6th Fleet
  • Director of Advanced Analytics within the Nimitz Operational Intelligence Center
  • Intelligence Liaison Officer at the Intelligence Directorate (N2) at CNE-CNA-C6F,  Naples, Italy

With her experience working in various offices and programs of the Department of Defense, Rachael Martin has earned credibility as a visionary who empowers federal agencies with artificial intelligence.

 

A significant milestone in Ms. Martin’s career was when she was appointed the Director of Project Maven. Established by the Pentagon in 2017, Project Maven was designed to accelerate the integration of big data, artificial intelligence, and machine learning technologies into a wide range of military capabilities. 

 

In 2022, the project was transferred to the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency–the foremost GEOINT agency under the DoD; its contracting was scheduled to begin in 2024. “We’ve hit our milestones and you’ll start seeing as we look to the next few months a lot more activity from the Maven office in contracting,” said Ms. Rachael Martin in November 2023.

 

The NGA Maven Director also highlighted that while Project Maven is relatively new, it provides the DoD with stability, confidence, and an advantage in harnessing the power of AI and the latest technologies for warfighters.

Rachael Martin’s involvement in the launch and operability of Project Maven earned her a spot among the women winners of Wash100 2024. She is one of the executives who have received their first Wash100 award.

 

The Wash100 Awards were created by Executive Mosaic (EM) in 2014. GovCon experts and leaders who have the grit and commitment to shaping the federal, military, and civilian landscapes, as well as delivering innovative solutions that suit the present and future needs of the nation are granted the auspicious accolade annually.
