A Planet Labs subsidiary has landed a subscription contract from the National Reconnaissance Office to provide satellite imagery data sets as NRO aims to incorporate overhead images into the agency’s mission.
The deal follows a study contract Planet Federal received in June, the company said Tuesday.
“Government entities like the NRO are exploring the value that the commercial aerospace sector has to offer, and we are delighted to contribute,” said Robbie Schingler, co-founder and chief strategy officer of Planet Labs.
Jen Marcus, vice president of U.S. government strategic partnerships at Planet’s federal arm said the award “is a testament to truly unified effort these agencies wish to build in support of the mission and enabling the end user.”
Schingler added the company will provide satellite-based information in real time to help national security decision-makers adapt to geopolitical and technological trends.
