The Department of Defense has reaffirmed its decision to award the Joint Enterprise Defense Infrastructure cloud computing contract to Microsoft (Nasdaq: MSFT) after conducting a reassessment of proposals.
DoD said Friday JEDI is an indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity, firm-fixed-price contract that will provide agencies across the department access to a complete range of cloud service offerings.
The Pentagon initially awarded the JEDI cloud contract to Microsoft in October 2019 but Amazon (Nasdaq: AMZN) filed a federal suit in Washington a month after to challenge DoD’s decision .
A federal judge issued in February a preliminary injunction directing DoD to stop work on the JEDI contract in response to a lawsuit filed by Amazon. In April, Judge Patricia Campbell-Smith of the U.S. Court of Federal Claims approved DoD’s request for a 120-day remand to re-evaluate its contract award decision.
In mid-August, the Pentagon asked for a 30-day extension to review certain aspects of the pricing proposals of Microsoft and Amazon Web Services and said in a court filing that it expected the re-evaluation process to finish by early September.
