Northrop-Raytheon Technologies Team to Pursue Next-Gen Interceptor Program; Blake Larson Quoted

Northrop Grumman (NYSE: NOC) and a Raytheon Technologies (NYSE: RTX) business have teamed up to compete for the Missile Defense Agency’s Next-Generation Interceptor program.

“We have the right team, technology and expertise in place to meet our customer’s needs for enhanced capabilities, from the identification of a ballistic missile launched by an adversary, all the way to its elimination,” Blake Larson, corporate vice president and president of Northrop’s space systems business, said in a statement published Monday.

MDA issued in late April a solicitation for the NGI program, which seeks to support the deployment of a system designed to strengthen the country’s ballistic missile defense platform.

Raytheon Technologies’ missiles and defense business and Northrop provide the kill vehicle, engagement coordination, fire control, ground systems and interceptor booster for the Ground-Based Midcourse Defense system. The two firms have carried out more than 40 exoatmospheric intercepts.
