NASA Seeks Contractor to Develop Geostationary Extended Operations Sounder Instrument

NASA has issued a request for proposals for the development of a hyperspectral infrared instrument to be used in the space agency’s next-generation geostationary satellite program with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

A notice posted Friday on SAM.gov stated that the chosen proposal will receive a cost-plus-award-fee hardware contract to provide for up to four Geostationary Extended Observations Sounder flight models.

In December, NASA and NOAA secured approval from the Department of Commerce to start the procurement of spacecraft and instruments as a follow-on to the Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite R Series.

The GeoXO Sounder instruments sought by the agencies for the proposal are expected to gather data to aid the weather prediction models of the National Weather Service and Oceanic and Atmospheric Research.

Interested vendors have until March 17 to submit their proposals, which should include plans for the design, analysis, development, fabrication, calibration, testing, maintenance and mission support for the technology.
