NASA plans to award a sole-source contract to Northrop Grumman™s (NYSE: NOC) innovation systems sector to construct a habitation module for the Gateway lunar station, Spaceflight Now reported Tuesday.
The agency said Friday in a FedBizOpps notice it wants the company to supply the Minimal Habitation Module due to the firm’s capacity to provide services that can help meet the Trump administration’s 2024 deadline for the moon mission.
Both parties expect to negotiate the contract value in the coming months.
Northrop could use its Cygnus spacecraft as a basis for the design of a pressurized habitation compartment intended to serve as living quarters and support scientific experiments.
The module will be built to operate with the gateway™s power and propulsion element Maxar Technologies (NYSE: MAXR) is building for the agency as part of a potential $375M contract awarded in May.
