The Defense Information Systems Agency has extended by one year its provisional authorization for Microsoft's (Nasdaq: MSFT) Azure cloud computing platform to continue hosting Department of Defense data classifed as secret.
DISA eased restrictions on the certification the company originally received in February of last year and opened the cloud service to mission partners, the agency said Tuesday.
The Azure Government Secret region is designed to help agencies maintain the integrity of classified workloads.
The agency conducts stringent testing activities and reviews cloud service providers' assessment results under the Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program before approving cloud offerings for government use.
