Akima Subsidiary Secures $369M Air Force Delivery Order for T-7A MTS Development

Akima subsidiary Pinnacle Solutions has received a potential $369 million delivery order from the U.S. Air Force to design, develop and deliver the T-7A Maintenance Training System, or MTS.

Akima said Wednesday the Training Systems Acquisition IV, or TSA IV, delivery order has a performance period of seven and a half years, if all options are exercised, and positions Pinnacle as the prime contractor.

“This win highlights Akima’s ability to deliver sophisticated training and logistics capabilities at scale to meet the evolving mission needs of the U.S. Air Force,” said Scott Rauer, president of Akima’s facilities solutions group. “Pinnacle’s deep expertise in immersive, mission-ready training ensures maintainers are equipped to support the T-7A with confidence.”

What Is T-7A MTS?

T-7A MTS is a key component of the Air Force’s next-generation training platform.

The service expects the system to prepare maintainers for the next-generation T-7A Red Hawk aircraft, which is replacing its T-38C Talon fleet.

What Is the Scope of the Air Force TSA IV Delivery Order?

Under the delivery order, Pinnacle will create and deploy a scalable, technology-enabled training platform integrating advanced training devices, interactive multimedia instruction, smart classrooms, sustainment engineering and logistics support.

The Akima subsidiary will leverage it VXT Core virtual training framework, which offers immersive training experiences using virtual and augmented reality interfaces, high-fidelity platform and weapon system models, and haptic feedback devices.

The program’s initial three years will focus on system development in Huntsville, Alabama. Pinnacle will deliver training systems to a central training facility at Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph in Texas, and to four unit maintenance training facilities across Mississippi, Texas and Oklahoma.

Following deployment, the company will provide ongoing contractor logistics support and manage the training system support center to maintain long-term readiness.

Who Are Pinnacle’s Industry Partners in the Delivery Order?

Pinnacle will collaborate with Aero Simulation, LSI, Textron Systems and Janus Research Group and leverage a mature development ecosystem to speed up production and sustainment of an extensible training system.
