MDA Modification Brings Lockheed Aegis BMD Contract Value to $2.4B

Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT) has received a two-year, $204.3 million contract modification from the Missile Defense Agency to continue to provide support services for baseline 5.1 of the Aegis Ballistic Missile Defense system under increment 2 development phase.

The modification brings the total contract value to $2.4 billion and also covers adaptation support for the Aegis Ashore program, the Defense Department said Wednesday.

Under baseline 5.1, the Aegis BMD system will incorporate the SM-3 Block IIA missile into the combat platform and will include updates to data links designed to facilitate remote tracking data engagements and counter threats at long ranges.

MDA plans to field such functions in 2018.

The Aegis Weapon System is a command-and-control platform that uses the AN/SPY-1 radar that works to detect and track missile threats and incorporates computer system updates through technology insertion and advanced capability build processes for cruisers and destroyer ships under the Aegis Modernization program.

Lockheed™s missions systems and training business will perform work at its Moorestown, New Jersey-based facility through Sept. 30, 2018.

MDA will obligate $61 million from research, development, test and evaluation funds for fiscal 2016 at the time of award, according to DoD.
