MBDA and the Qatar government have signed a memorandum of understanding toward a potential $725 million contract for the arms manufacturer to supply a coastal defense system to the Qatar Emiri naval force.
Qatar will use the missile system to monitor coastal traffic and block enemy ships from the countrys territorial waters, MBDA said Wednesday.
The coastal missile system is designed to launch the Exocet MM40 Block 3 munitions and the Marte Extended Range missile.
The system also incorporates a radar to operate in autonomous mode and works to data-link across the larger coastal surveillance network, MBDA said.
