MBDA and the Qatar government have signed a memorandum of understanding toward a potential $725 million contract for the arms manufacturer to supply a coastal defense system to the Qatar Emiri naval force.
Qatar will use the missile system to monitor coastal traffic and block enemy ships from the country™s territorial waters, MBDA said Wednesday.
The coastal missile system is designed to launch the Exocet MM40 Block 3 munitions and the Marte Extended Range missile.
The system also incorporates a radar to operate in autonomous mode and works to data-link across the larger coastal surveillance network, MBDA said.
