Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT) has secured a $240M contract to help the Missile Defense Agency update the foundational simulation framework of the country’s Ballistic Missile Defense System.
The company said Wednesday it will lead an industry team to sustain readiness of BMDS against evolving threats as part of the Modeling and Simulation ContractFramework and Tools.
Northrop Grumman (NYSE: NOC), Dynetics, Archarithms, CohesionForce, Corvid Technologies, ISYS Technologies, M&M Technical Services, PeopleTec and Penta Research are Lockheed’s teammembers on the MASC-F program.
Under the contract, the companies will work to develop tools to support BMDS modeling and simulation efforts across the MDA enterprise and supply data needed to evaluate the system effectiveness and survivability.
The framework is intended to help the agency integrate constructive models and real-world hardware into one platform that can reflect the performance of deployed BMDS equipment.
JD Hammond, vice president of C4ISR systems at Lockheed, said testing multiple BMDS elements together is a very complicated process.
Hammond added the framework will help the agency test “what-if scenarios before fielding new configurations to ensure the warfighter gets the most effective system possible.”
Contract work will take place at a Lockheed facility in Huntsville, Ala.
