Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT) has awarded BAE Systems a potential five-year, $100 million contract to provide sustainment support for electronic warfare platforms aboard the F-35 Lightning II fighter jet.
BAE said Tuesday it will oversee the supply chain for the EW suite, manage regional warehouses with on-hand EW component inventories and establish metrics and infrastructure to ensure the readiness of EW systems in support of warfighters.
FlightGlobal reported that BAE produces the EW suite for the Lockheed-built F-35 aircraft and will leverage its performance-based logistics experience to support work on the fighter jet sustainability contract.
The AN/ASQ-239 EW system consists of sensors and avionics designed to provide F-35 pilots with a 360-degree view of the battlefield needed to counter and evade threats.
