Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT) has secured a potential two-year, $87.3 million contract from the U.S. Navy to provide technical and program management services in support of the Trident II D5 submarine-launched ballistic missile’s navigation subsystem.
The Defense Departmentsaid Wednesday the contract covers navigation hardware and software design, testing, installation and deliverables for Shipboard Systems Integration Increments four and eight.
Lockheed will provide support for U.S. and U.K. repair and development efforts under the contract, which has a one-year base period and one-year option.
Work will occur in Mitchel Field, New York; Oldsmar, Florida; and Manassas, Virginia through Dec. 31, 2018.
The Navy will finance the $79.9 million base value of the contract using U.K. funds and the service branch’s fiscal 2017 “other” procurement, research, development, technology and evaluation funds.
Lockheed-built Trident II missiles are designed to provide nuclear deterrence support for the Navy’s Ohio-class and U.K.’s Vanguard-class submarines.
