Lockheed Secures $454M Air Force Contract Modification for Mk21A Reentry Vehicle

Lockheed Martin has received a $453.9 million contract modification from the U.S. Air Force for the Mk21A Reentry Vehicle program.

The Department of Defense said Thursday the modification increases the total cumulative value of the contract from $1.03 billion to approximately $1.48 billion.

Work on the program is slated to be carried out in King of Prussia, Pennsylvania, through Sept. 29, 2032.

The Air Force Nuclear Weapons Center at Hill Air Force Base in Utah is the contracting activity.

The latest contract action was made under a sole-source contract awarded to Lockheed in 2023. The contract covers engineering, manufacturing and design of the MK21A Reentry Vehicle for the Sentinel program.

What Is the MK21A Reentry Vehicle?

MK21A is an integrated reentry vehicle being designed to deploy the W87-1 warhead for the Air Force’s future Sentinel intercontinental ballistic missile weapon system, which represents the modernization of the U.S. nuclear triad’s land-based leg.

Lockheed said it is maturing its Mk21A design using advanced modeling and simulation and other digital engineering tools.
