Leonardo Books $92M USSOCOM Contract for C-27J Aircraft Avionics Update

Leonardo has received a $91.9 million contract from a U.S. combatant command to modernize the avionics system of a fixed-wing aircraft that supports the missions of special operations forces.

Under the Special Operations Command contract, the Italy-based defense and aerospace conglomerate will be responsible for designing, modifying, integrating and installing the 1.2+ avionics update package on the C-27J aircraft to replace more than 15-year-old components, the Department of Defense said Tuesday.

The modernization effort aims to ensure commonality across the C-27J aircraft operating enterprise.

Leonardo will perform work in Naples, Italy, and will initially receive $32.1 million and $31.9 million from U.S. Army and Coast Guard procurement funds, respectively, at the time of the award.
