L3Harris said Monday the industry team will provide its single-engine Sky Warden platform to SOCOM’s Armed Overwatch program for use in multiple missions such as close air support, forward air control, strike coordination and intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance.
SOCOM made an initial $170 million award under the IDIQ and ordered six lot one low-rate initial production aircraft.
“An important part of our Trusted Disruptor strategy is listening closely to combatant commanders’ needs, and responding faster than the evolving threats,” said Christopher Kubasik, chair and CEO of L3Harris and a three-time Wash100 winner.
Kubasik added the team will work to bring modular technologies to U.S. special operations through Sky Warden.
L3Harris aims to complete the modification of a prototype demonstrator built for the Armed Overwatch effort last summer and conduct weapon system tests for the command within a six-month period.
