Amentum has appointed Khalid Syed as vice president of strategic national security initiatives, the company announced Thursday.
In this role, Syed will lead the company’s efforts to advance capabilities in integrated air and missile defense, space systems and command, control, communications, computers, cyber, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance.
What Expertise Does Khalid Syed Bring to the Role?
Syed brings more than three decades of experience leading mission-critical defense technology companies. He joins Amentum from Booz Allen Hamilton, where he spent 29 years of his career and most recently served as senior vice president and general manager of the national security technology sector. His leadership touched programs central to homeland defense, including the Battle Control System-Fixed and Northern Command/NORAD command-and-control modernization efforts.
Over the course of his career, Syed has focused on multi-domain operations, joint all-domain command and control and artificial intelligence-enabled battle management. He has also contributed to high-profile national security programs, including the global positioning system modernization of the U.S. Space Force and the Defense of Guam initiative.

Syed holds an executive MBA from Georgetown University and a master’s degree in electrical engineering from George Washington University. He also holds Project Management Professional and Certified Systems Engineering Professional certifications.
What Other Organizational Changes Has Amentum Made Recently?
Syed’s appointment comes three months after Amentum designated Sam Nazari to its newly created role of chief artificial intelligence architect. Prior to his promotion, Nazari had been leading the company’s AI programs for the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency.
Amentum also announced in April that Joseph DeNardi, who previously worked at SAIC as treasurer and SVP of financial planning and analysis, will replace Nathan Rutledge as senior vice president and head of investor relations.
