The Department of Energy intends to award an AECOM-led (NYSE: ACM) joint venture a $725M contract to continue managing radioactive waste retrieval efforts at DOE™s Hanford site in Washington for an additional 12 months.
Washington River Protection Solutions will oversee treatment and retrieval of tank wastes at the facility as part of the contract extension slated to occur from October of this year through Sept. 30, 2020, AECOM said Monday.
John Vollmer, president of the management services group at AECOM and four-time Wash100 Award recipient, said the WRPS team will handle Waste Treatment and Immobilization Plant operations and manage high-level tank waste to help mitigate potential dangers to the Columbia River.
Mark Whitney, executive vice president and general manager of AECOM™s nuclear and environment strategic business unit, said the company partners with the department to advance cleanup mission and reduce environmental risks in the state of Washington.
The company will book the contract extension in its fiscal 2019 fourth-quarter backlog.
